Avoiding the Dinosaur Label

I was listening to one of my favorite bands last week—Thin Lizzy. I’ve been a fan of their music since grade school, especially the Jailbreak and Live and Dangerous albums. There’s something about their double lead guitar harmonies and Phil Lynott’s delivery that I’ve always found irresistible.

In 1977, after a few years of filling stadiums with hits including Whiskey in the Jar, The Boys Are Back in Town, and Jailbreak, the band did something unconventional: it joined forces with members from the Sex Pistols to briefly unite with the rising punk movement. The band took notice of the growing popularity of punk in the UK and found a way to connect with it. The Greedy Bastards, as they called themselves, didn't last long but it did earn Thin Lizzy respect among a younger generation and helped the band avoid the dreaded 'dinosaur' label with which so many other 1970s rock bands were pegged.

Which negative labels are you trying to avoid?
